A mother of two young children (Bailey, almost 3, and Jake, almost 1), I have often found myself struggling to decide how to be the world’s greatest mother (or at least a halfway sane one) and still hold onto my independence as an individual through work. After several months of tossing and turning, trying to find a way to feel less tied to a job and less guilty about leaving my children to work, it occurred to me that I could make something. Honestly, a million different items must have gone through my mind (my poor husband surely wondered if I had lost it when I announced some of my more creative ideas – thank goodness he is a patient and supportive man!). However, the one idea that came to me that seemed to make the most sense was hair bows. There are only about five dozen of these little things lying around my house at any given time – I seem to pick them up almost as much as I pick up dirty socks or tipped over juice cups. Why not try my hand at making them? I didn’t have much to lose; my daughter could always wear them if they didn’t sell. Thus, Bailey’s Boutique was born.

The guilty mother that I am, I have to admit that it has crossed my mind more than once that I do not sell items for boys, while I have a young son. That’s why you will notice “by Jakey Wear” after the title of my website. I do have plans for a line of boys’ accessories. I also have plans to expand my offerings to include more accessories for girls – possibly purses, hats, and an occasional line of jewelry. That will all be in the future though. For now, I am sticking to making hair bows and working toward full-time self-employment!
